Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mexon is an oral formulation of methylprednisolone, a synthetic glucocorticoid developed and marketed by the Indonesian pharmaceutical company Sampharindo. As a potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent, it functions as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor (NR3C1). Upon binding to the receptor in the cytoplasm, the drug-receptor complex translocates to the nucleus, where it binds to glucocorticoid response elements (GREs) to modulate gene expression. This results in the downregulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the upregulation of anti-inflammatory mediators. Mexon is primarily indicated for the management of various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, as well as acute allergic reactions.
