Overview

Mezagitamab is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that targets CD38, a cell surface protein highly expressed on plasmablasts, plasma cells, and natural killer cells. By binding to CD38, mezagitamab induces depletion of these cells through mechanisms such as antibody-dependent cell cytotoxicity. This action is designed to modulate immune responses and has shown rapid and sustained improvement in platelet counts in patients with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Mezagitamab is being developed by Takeda for several autoimmune and hematologic diseases including ITP, multiple myeloma, myasthenia gravis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and IgA nephropathy. It has received Orphan Drug Designation for ITP and multiple myeloma from the US FDA[2][3][4][5][7].
