Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MF59-eH5N1 + eTIV is a combination of two influenza vaccines administered together. The first component is an H5N1 (avian influenza) vaccine adjuvanted with MF59, an oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant that enhances both antibody and T-cell responses to the antigen. The second component is an enhanced trivalent inactivated seasonal influenza vaccine (eTIV). The combination aims to provide protection against both pandemic (H5N1) and seasonal strains of influenza. MF59 allows for dose sparing and broader cross-reactivity against viral strains not included in the vaccine formulation. Clinical studies have shown that this approach increases immunogenicity across age groups without significant safety concerns[2][3][5]. Novartis Vaccines developed the original formulations; CSL Seqirus now manufactures related products.
