This MF59-adjuvanted trivalent subunit inactivated egg-derived influenza vaccine is a biological product developed by Seqirus for the prevention of seasonal influenza in adults aged 65 years and older. It contains inactivated surface antigens (hemagglutinin and neuraminidase) from two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and one influenza B strain from the Yamagata lineage. This specific formulation was utilized as a comparator arm (aTIV-2) in Phase 3 clinical trials (such as study V118_20) to evaluate the immunogenicity and safety of quadrivalent adjuvanted vaccines. The vaccine is formulated with the MF59C.1 adjuvant, a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion designed to enhance the immune response in the elderly population, who often experience immunosenescence.
