Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MF59-eH5N1 is an investigational influenza vaccine candidate designed for pandemic preparedness against avian influenza A (H5N1) viruses. It combines a recombinant or cell culture-derived H5N1 hemagglutinin antigen with the MF59 adjuvant, an oil-in-water emulsion that enhances immune responses to the vaccine antigen. The MF59 adjuvant works by rapidly inducing chemokines and cytokines at the injection site, recruiting multiple immune cells, and promoting differentiation of monocyte-derived dendritic cells in draining lymph nodes, which enhances both antibody and T-cell responses[1][4]. The primary indication for this vaccine is prevention of infection caused by H5N1 avian influenza virus strains. Clinical studies have shown that full-dose formulations (7.5 µg HA with 0.25 mL MF59) are well tolerated and elicit strong immunogenicity in adults, elderly subjects, and children[3][4]. The vaccine has been developed as part of global pandemic preparedness efforts.
