Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MF59-eH5N1 + eTIV is an investigational tetravalent combination vaccine developed by Novartis that integrates a pre-pandemic H5N1 avian influenza component with a trivalent seasonal influenza vaccine. The formulation consists of the MF59-adjuvanted H5N1 vaccine (Aflunov) and the egg-derived trivalent seasonal influenza vaccine (Agrippal). It contains 7.5 μg of hemagglutinin (HA) from the A/Vietnam/1194/2004 (H5N1) strain and 15 μg of HA from each of three seasonal strains (typically A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and B), for a total HA content of 52.5 μg. The vaccine utilizes Novartis's proprietary MF59 adjuvant, a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion, to enhance the immune response and potentially provide broader cross-reactivity. This combination approach was designed to provide simultaneous protection against seasonal influenza while priming the immune system against potential pandemic avian influenza strains.
