Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MF59-eTIV-H5N1 is an investigational MF59-adjuvanted tetravalent influenza vaccine developed by Novartis Vaccines (now part of Seqirus/CSL). It is designed to provide protection against both pandemic H5N1 influenza and seasonal influenza strains in a single formulation. The vaccine contains inactivated influenza virus surface antigens (hemagglutinin) from four strains: a pre-pandemic H5N1 strain (A/Vietnam/1194/2004) and three seasonal strains (A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and influenza B). It is formulated with the MF59 adjuvant, a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion, to enhance the immune response. The vaccine was evaluated in Phase II clinical trials to assess the feasibility of combining pandemic priming with seasonal vaccination, aiming to maintain immunogenicity and safety comparable to separate administration of the vaccines.
