mFNDC1 is a recombinant truncated mouse fibronectin type III domain containing 1 (FNDC1), identified as a myokine that plays a crucial role in myogenesis and muscle regeneration. It promotes myoblast differentiation and myotube formation. Mechanistically, mFNDC1 binds to integrin α5β1, which subsequently activates the downstream FAK/PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. This activation leads to enhanced myogenic differentiation and muscle regeneration. Preclinical studies have shown that mFNDC1 treatment can ameliorate pathological muscle phenotypes in the mdx mouse model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic agent for acute and chronic muscle diseases.
