Overview

mFOLFOX6 or CapeOx refers to a choice of two standard-of-care adjuvant chemotherapy regimens used in the treatment of colorectal cancer. In the context of a clinical trial conducted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (NCT05200299), these regimens serve as the control arm for patients with stage IIIB or IIIC colorectal cancer. mFOLFOX6 consists of oxaliplatin, leucovorin (folinic acid), and 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), administered intravenously. CapeOx (also known as XELOX) consists of intravenous oxaliplatin and oral capecitabine, a prodrug of 5-fluorouracil. Both regimens function by inhibiting DNA synthesis and repair: oxaliplatin forms DNA cross-links, while 5-fluorouracil and capecitabine inhibit thymidylate synthase, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells.
