Overview

MFS-16 is a novel small molecule intravenous anesthetic candidate developed by Chengdu Mafuisan Pharmaceutical Technology. It is intended for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. MFS-16 functions as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor, a mechanism shared with other sedative-hypnotic agents like propofol and ciprofol. By enhancing the inhibitory effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the central nervous system, it induces a rapid and reversible state of unconsciousness. The drug is being developed to potentially offer a better safety profile or improved pharmacokinetic properties over existing standard-of-care anesthetics. It is currently undergoing clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile.
