MG-D-1002 is a small molecule inhibitor of Yes-associated protein (YAP) being developed by Metagone Biotech for the treatment of retinal vascular disorders, including choroidal age-related macular degeneration (cAMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). YAP is a key transcriptional co-activator and a primary effector of the Hippo signaling pathway, which plays a critical role in regulating cell proliferation, survival, and angiogenesis. In the eye, overactivation of the YAP pathway is associated with pathological neovascularization and vascular leakage. By inhibiting YAP, MG-D-1002 aims to suppress these disease processes, potentially offering a therapeutic alternative or adjunct to existing anti-VEGF treatments. The drug is currently in Phase 2 clinical development.
