Overview

MG1111C is a live attenuated varicella vaccine candidate developed by GC Biopharma (formerly Green Cross Corporation) for the prevention of varicella (chickenpox). It is a specific developmental iteration of the MG1111 vaccine program, which utilizes the MAV/06 strain, an indigenous Korean-attenuated varicella-zoster virus (VZV) strain, rather than the more common Oka strain used in many global vaccines. The virus is propagated in the Medical Research Council-5 (MRC-5) human diploid cell line. While the parent vaccine MG1111 is approved and marketed in South Korea under the brand name Baricela (or Barycela), the MG1111C variant is currently in Phase 2 clinical development. The vaccine is designed to induce protective immunity against VZV by mimicking a natural infection in a controlled, attenuated manner, providing safety and immunogenicity profiles comparable to established international standards.
