MG29 is a recombinant protein therapeutic being developed by TRIM-edicine for the treatment of aging-related muscle disorders, including sarcopenia and age-related muscle dysfunction. MG29 (Mitsugumin 29) is a skeletal muscle-specific protein belonging to the synaptophysin family, localized to the membrane of the transverse tubule (T-tubule) where it plays a critical role in maintaining calcium homeostasis and muscle structural integrity. Research has shown that MG29 expression levels decrease by approximately 50% in aged skeletal muscle, a downregulation linked to muscle aging phenotypes such as fragmented sarcoplasmic reticulum, T-tubule swelling, and increased susceptibility to fatigue. By restoring MG29 levels, the therapeutic aims to address calcium signaling defects and enhance muscle repair capacity in elderly individuals.
