MGB-002 is a monoclonal antibody biosimilar developed by MetaGen Biologics for the treatment of osteoporosis and the prevention of excessive bone loss. It is designed as a biosimilar to denosumab (Prolia/Xgeva), a human monoclonal antibody that inhibits the Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor Kappa-B Ligand (RANKL). By binding to RANKL, MGB-002 prevents the activation of its receptor, RANK, on the surface of osteoclasts and their precursors. This action inhibits osteoclast formation, function, and survival, leading to decreased bone resorption and increased bone mineral density. MGB-002 has completed Phase 3 clinical development, positioning it as a potential lower-cost alternative to the reference biologic for managing bone health in postmenopausal women and other patients at high risk of fractures.
