mgG-2 is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate being developed by Simplexia for the prevention and treatment of genital herpes caused by Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2). The vaccine targets Glycoprotein G-2 (gG-2), a membrane-associated protein unique to HSV-2 that is involved in immune evasion by acting as a chemokine-binding protein. By utilizing a modified recombinant form of gG-2, the vaccine aims to elicit a specific and robust immune response to prevent viral entry and reduce the frequency of recurrent outbreaks. mgG-2 is currently in preclinical development.
