The mGlu8 positive allosteric modulator (PAM) is a small molecule therapeutic candidate developed by the Warren Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery (WCNDD) for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. As a positive allosteric modulator of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 8 (mGlu8), it enhances the activity of this Group III metabotropic glutamate receptor. mGlu8 is primarily located presynaptically in the central nervous system, where it acts as an autoreceptor to regulate glutamate release. By modulating mGlu8 activity, the drug aims to restore neurotransmitter balance and provide neuroprotective or symptomatic benefits in neurodegenerative conditions. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
