Overview

mGluR5 negative allosteric modulator is a small molecule drug candidate being developed by Hua Medicine. It functions as a negative allosteric modulator (NAM) of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5), a G protein-coupled receptor that plays a key role in modulating excitatory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. The drug is primarily targeted for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease Levodopa-Induced Dyskinesia (PD-LID) and drug addiction. By acting as a negative allosteric modulator, the compound binds to a site distinct from the orthosteric glutamate binding site to reduce receptor activity. This mechanism is intended to alleviate the motor complications associated with long-term levodopa therapy in Parkinson's patients and to modulate the neurobiological pathways involved in substance use disorders.
