Overview

**MHS-1031** is a proprietary digestion-resistant oligosaccharide carbohydrate functioning as a prebiotic, derived from panosyl-isomaltooligosaccharides. It is being investigated as an adjunctive therapy to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for improving heartburn-free days and symptom severity in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)-related heartburn who report partial improvement on daily PPI therapy. In a pilot study with 24 GERD patients, 88% reported symptom improvement. The ongoing multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 trial (NCT05556824) evaluates its efficacy over 8 weeks using validated patient-reported outcomes like the RESQ-eD questionnaire, with additional assessments of tolerability in a separate trial (NCT05363618).[1][2][4][9]
