The mHsp70-targeted peptide is a specialized peptide sequence designed to selectively bind to the membrane-bound form of the 70 kDa heat shock protein (mHsp70). While Hsp70 is typically a cytoplasmic chaperone, it is frequently overexpressed on the plasma membrane of malignant cells, particularly in aggressive brain tumors like glioblastoma, where it contributes to high migratory and invasive activity. This peptide is engineered to cross the blood-brain barrier and accumulate within tumor tissues. It has been investigated for two primary applications: as a fluorescently labeled probe for intraoperative imaging to help surgeons delineate tumor margins in real-time, and as a potential targeted delivery vehicle for carrying therapeutic payloads directly to cancer cells. Preclinical studies in rodent glioma models (GL261 and C6) have demonstrated its high targeting efficiency and retention within the tumor microenvironment following intravenous administration.
