Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MHY908 is a synthetic small molecule that acts as a potent dual agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors alpha and gamma (PPARα/γ). Originally developed by researchers at Pusan National University, MHY908 has been investigated for its anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and neuroprotective properties. It suppresses endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, improves insulin sensitivity, and reduces neuroinflammation in models of type 2 diabetes, aging, and Parkinson's disease. Additionally, MHY908 acts as a tyrosinase inhibitor, suppressing melanogenesis for potential use in hyperpigmentation disorders. More recently, researchers at Aston University have explored its therapeutic potential in epidermolysis bullosa (EB) and tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) by delivering it via thermosensitive hydrogels or liposomes to modulate dysregulated mTOR signaling, inflammation, and oxidative stress.
