MIA-313 is a synthetic peptide that functions as an antagonist of the growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR). It is being studied primarily for its anti-cancer properties, including inhibition of tumor growth and angiogenesis via reduction of VEGF secretion. MIA-313 acts by blocking the action of GHRH at its receptor, which is implicated in the growth of certain malignant cells. The drug has been shown to inhibit cancer cell lines in vitro and reduce tumor growth in vivo. The University of Miami initially developed it, and Biscayne Pharmaceuticals is noted as an active organization in its development. Its primary indication is for neoplasms, with particular investigation in acute myeloid leukemia and other hematologic malignancies[3][5].
