mianserin

Mianserin is a tetracyclic antidepressant used primarily for the treatment of depression and anxiety. It is classified as a noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant (NaSSA). Its mechanism of action involves blocking alpha-adrenergic receptors and histamine H1 receptors while also interacting with certain serotonin receptors in the central nervous system. Mianserin has strong antihistaminic and hypnosedative effects but minimal anticholinergic activity. It weakly inhibits norepinephrine reuptake and stimulates norepinephrine release. The drug is often used when sleep disturbances are present in depression or for patients who may be more susceptible to side effects from other antidepressants[1][2][5].
