Overview

MIC-Tx is a donor-specific cell therapy developed by TolerogenixX designed to induce immunological tolerance in organ transplant recipients. The product consists of donor peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) that are treated ex vivo with mitomycin C, a potent DNA-crosslinking agent. This treatment modifies the donor cells into Modified Immune Cells (MIC) which, when intravenously administered to the recipient prior to transplantation, suppress the recipient's immune response against the donor's HLA antigens. By promoting the expansion of regulatory T cells and inducing anergy in effector T cells, MIC-Tx aims to prevent graft rejection and significantly reduce or eliminate the requirement for lifelong systemic immunosuppressive therapy. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for patients undergoing kidney and heart transplantation.
