Micrin (EPL001) is a naturally occurring mammalian polypeptide hormone being developed by Endocrine Pharmaceuticals. It is a 14-amino acid peptide (sequence: MKPLTGKVKEFNNI) derived from the N-terminal sequence of the sheep neuroendocrine prohormone secretogranin II (sSgII). Micrin acts as an endogenous inhibitor of tissue mass growth, functioning as a biological "brake" to prevent runaway tissue overgrowth and tumor progression. Its mechanism involves direct action on peripheral tissues and indirect regulation via the hypothalamic-pituitary axis. Endocrine Pharma has developed "minimal copies" of the hormone designed for oral administration, intended to be taken in a glass of water. The drug is currently in preclinical development for a wide range of proliferative and endocrine disorders, including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostate and breast cancers, heart failure (cardiac hypertrophy), polycystic kidney disease, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), acromegaly, and infertility.
