Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Microbial extract is a topical microbial therapy derived from composted agricultural stack, gardening soils, deciduous leaf litter, peat, and Sphagnum moss. It is being investigated for its potential to treat atopic dermatitis by enhancing immune tolerance and mitigating eczema symptoms. The extract works by down-regulating pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-22, and IL-33, and the antimicrobial peptide human β-defensin 2.
