Overview

Microbotox is a cosmetic injection technique that uses highly diluted doses of botulinum toxin type A (most commonly onabotulinumtoxinA) delivered as multiple tiny intradermal or superficial subdermal injections across the skin. Unlike traditional Botox injections—which target deeper facial muscles to reduce dynamic wrinkles—microbotox targets the upper dermis and superficial muscle fibers. This approach aims to refine skin texture and tone without paralyzing underlying muscles or producing a "frozen" look. Mechanistically, microbotox acts by modulating motor nerve endings in small superficial muscle fibers and inhibiting sympathetic innervation of sweat and sebaceous glands. The result is reduced fine lines and wrinkles (especially in delicate areas like the lower face and neck), minimized pore size, decreased sebum (oil) production, improved skin texture/laxity ("glass skin"), reduced facial redness/rosacea symptoms due to effects on blood vessels, diminished sweating (hyperhidrosis), improvement in acne-prone or oily skin types, prevention/management of scars/keloids via fibroblast modulation and TGF-β1 inhibition. Microbotox is not a new drug but rather an innovative formulation/delivery method using existing FDA-approved neurotoxins such as onabotulinumtoxinA. It originated in Asia but has become popular worldwide for patients seeking subtle rejuvenation with natural movement preserved[1][2][3][4][5][6].
