Overview

Micrococcus luteus Q24 lysate ointment is a topical biologic formulation developed by the University of Otago in collaboration with Blis Technologies. The active ingredient is a lysate (killed-cell preparation) of *Micrococcus luteus* strain Q24 (BLIS Q24™), a human skin commensal bacterium. Formulated at a 5% concentration in a Cetomacrogol ointment base, the drug targets the skin microbiome to inhibit pathogenic bacteria associated with inflammatory skin conditions, including *Staphylococcus aureus* and *Cutibacterium acnes*. It was investigated as a treatment for eczema (atopic dermatitis) in a Phase 1 safety study in New Zealand adults, which was terminated early.
