Microcrystalline tyrosine (MCT) is a proprietary, biodegradable depot adjuvant platform developed by Allergy Therapeutics. It consists of a crystalline form of the non-essential amino acid L-tyrosine and has been utilized in allergy immunotherapy since the 1970s. MCT serves as a physical platform that adsorbs allergens or antigens, facilitating their slow release (depot effect) and enhancing the immune response, particularly the production of protective IgG antibodies. It is a key component of the Pollinex Quattro vaccine range used for treating allergic rhinitis. MCT is favored over traditional aluminum-based adjuvants due to its full biodegradability and favorable safety profile. Beyond its established use in allergy, MCT has been investigated in clinical trials as an adjuvant for prophylactic vaccines against infectious diseases such as malaria and influenza, as well as in oncology for melanoma.
