Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Microcyn-Gel is a clear, amorphous, and isotonic hydrogel formulation developed by Sonoma Pharmaceuticals (formerly Oculus Innovative Sciences) for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds, burns, and various skin conditions such as acne and dermatitis. Utilizing the proprietary Microcyn technology platform, the formulation contains hypochlorous acid (HOCl) as its active antimicrobial agent. HOCl is a small molecule that mimics the natural oxidative burst produced by the human immune system's neutrophils to eliminate pathogens. The hydrogel is designed to maintain a moist wound environment conducive to rapid healing, provide a physical barrier against infection, and deliver the active antimicrobial agent over an extended period. It has received regulatory clearances, including FDA 510(k) clearance in the United States, for use as a medical device in wound management.
