Microencapsulated ragweed pollen extract (MRPE) is an oral allergen immunotherapy (OIT) developed by Curalogic A/S for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis caused by short ragweed (*Ambrosia artemisiifolia*). The product utilizes a specialized microencapsulation technology where the pollen extract is contained within acid-resistant beads inside a capsule. This design protects the allergen from degradation by gastric acid and ensures targeted delivery to the Peyer's patches in the small intestine (duodenum and jejunum), where immunological processing occurs. By presenting the allergen to the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), MRPE aims to induce systemic immune tolerance, characterized by the modulation of allergen-specific IgE and the induction of protective IgG4 antibodies. Although it reached Phase 3 clinical trials, development was discontinued following the financial dissolution of Curalogic A/S.
