Microgynon 30

Microgynon 30 is a combined oral contraceptive pill (COC) used primarily to prevent pregnancy. It contains two active ingredients, ethinylestradiol (an estrogen) and levonorgestrel (a progestogen), in doses of 30 micrograms and 150 micrograms per tablet, respectively. The mechanism of action involves three main effects: inhibition of ovulation by suppressing the release of an egg from the ovaries; thickening of cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration; and alteration of the endometrial lining to reduce the likelihood of implantation. When taken as directed—one tablet daily for 21 days followed by a seven-day break—Microgynon 30 is over 99% effective in clinical trials at preventing pregnancy. Additional benefits may include regulation and reduction in menstrual bleeding, relief from premenstrual symptoms, and decreased menstrual pain[1][2][4][5].
