Microgynon CD

Microgynon CD is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) developed by Laboratorios Andrómaco S.A. as a generic formulation of the reference product Microgynon (Bayer). It is a fixed-dose combination containing 0.15 mg of levonorgestrel, a synthetic progestogen, and 0.03 mg of ethinyl estradiol, a synthetic estrogen. The drug is typically presented in a 28-day pack consisting of 21 active tablets and 7 placebo tablets. Its primary mechanism of action involves the suppression of gonadotropin secretion from the pituitary gland, which inhibits ovulation. Additionally, it increases the viscosity of cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration and modifies the endometrial lining to reduce the likelihood of implantation. Microgynon CD is indicated for the prevention of pregnancy in women and has been evaluated in bioequivalence studies to demonstrate comparable bioavailability to the marketed reference product.
