Overview

MicroIslet-H is an experimental cell therapy product consisting of microencapsulated human pancreatic islet cells, developed for the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes. The product utilizes a proprietary alginate-based encapsulation technology designed to provide a semi-permeable physical barrier around the islets. This barrier allows for the free diffusion of glucose, oxygen, and insulin while shielding the transplanted cells from the host's immune system, including T-lymphocytes and immunoglobulins. By providing "immunoisolation," MicroIslet-H aimed to restore normoglycemia through physiological insulin secretion without the requirement for long-term systemic immunosuppressive therapy. Development was halted following the developer's financial insolvency and liquidation in 2008.
