Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Microlyte Matrix is a **sterile, single-use absorbent polymeric wound matrix** primarily composed of bioresorbable polyvinyl alcohol with a polymeric surface coating containing low amounts of *ionic and metallic silver* (maximum 0.16 mg/in²)[2][3][9]. Its mechanism of action is to **absorb wound fluid, conform intimately to the wound bed, and create a moist healing environment**. The inclusion of silver serves an **antimicrobial role, limiting microbial growth within the matrix** but without significant systemic absorption. Microlyte Matrix is biocompatible and transparent, providing sustained antimicrobial activity for up to three days, and is effective against a broad range of bacteria and fungi commonly associated with wound infections[2][3][4]. It is indicated for the management of **partial and full thickness wounds** including pressure ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, diabetic ulcers, burns, abrasions, lacerations, donor sites, and surgical wounds. It can also be used over debrided and grafted partial thickness wounds[2][6][7]. Developed and manufactured by Imbed Biosciences, Microlyte Matrix is FDA 510(k) cleared (K153756) and has demonstrated clinical effectiveness in chronic wounds, with studies showing significant wound area reduction and a high proportion of wounds healing or improving significantly by 12 weeks[4][6].
