Overview

Micronomicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic isolated from the bacterium *Micromonospora sagamiensis* var. nonreducans. It is a structural analog of gentamicin, specifically known as gentamicin C2b or 6'-N-methylgentamicin C1a, and exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Staphylococcus epidermidis*, *Escherichia coli*, and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*. Its mechanism of action involves binding to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, causing mistranslation of mRNA and inhibition of protein synthesis, which leads to bacterial cell death. Micronomicin is marketed primarily in Japan under the brand names Sagamicin and Luxomicina for use as an injectable or ophthalmic (eye drop) antibiotic[1][3][4][5][6].
