Overview

MicroPine is an investigational ophthalmic spray formulation of atropine, delivered via Eyenovia’s proprietary Optejet microdose dispenser. It is being developed as a treatment to slow the progression of pediatric progressive myopia (nearsightedness) in children. The drug-device combination aims to provide precise, low-dose delivery of atropine directly to the eye as a gentle mist, potentially improving compliance and reducing systemic exposure compared to traditional eye drops. Atropine acts as a non-selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist in the eye, which has been shown in clinical studies to slow axial elongation and myopic progression by up to 60%. MicroPine is currently in late phase III clinical trials for this indication and has not yet received FDA approval[1][2][3][6][7].
