Microporous biphasic calcium phosphate (MBCP) is a synthetic, osteoconductive bone substitute biomaterial composed of a stable phase of hydroxyapatite (HA) and a soluble phase of β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP). The material is engineered with a specific architecture of interconnected macropores and micropores, which facilitates the infiltration of bone-forming cells and the exchange of biological fluids. As the β-TCP component gradually resorbs, it releases calcium and phosphate ions into the local environment, promoting the mineralization and formation of new bone tissue. MBCP is primarily utilized as a scaffold in orthopedic and dental surgeries, including jaw bone reconstruction and alveolar ridge augmentation, often in combination with cellular therapies like mesenchymal stem cells to enhance regenerative outcomes.
