Microporous polyglycan styptic powder, also referred to as compound microporous polychitosan styptic powder, is a topical hemostatic agent composed of chitosan-based microporous particles. It functions as a molecular sieve that rapidly absorbs the fluid component of blood upon contact with a wound, thereby concentrating platelets, red blood cells, and essential clotting proteins such as thrombin and fibrinogen at the site of injury. This process accelerates the natural coagulation cascade and creates a physical matrix that effectively seals damaged blood vessels. The agent is primarily investigated for its efficacy in managing capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding during surgical procedures, specifically to prevent post-operative bleeding following endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) of rectal lesions.
