Overview

microRNA-1275 mimic is a synthetic double-stranded RNA molecule designed to replicate the biological activity of endogenous microRNA-1275 (miR-1275). In the context of oncology, particularly hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), miR-1275 acts as a tumor suppressor that is frequently downregulated. The mimic functions by binding to the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of target messenger RNAs, most notably Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A-2 (EIF5A2), leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. By silencing EIF5A2, the mimic inhibits the downstream PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, which effectively restricts the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), cell stemness, proliferation, migration, and metastasis of cancer cells. Research has also indicated that its antitumor effects can be synergistically enhanced when used in combination with genistein.
