MicroRNA-129-3p mimic is a synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to simulate the biological activity of the endogenous mature microRNA miR-129-3p. As a research-grade biologic, it is utilized in functional studies to investigate the tumor-suppressive roles of miR-129-3p, which is frequently downregulated in various malignancies. The mimic functions by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of specific target mRNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. Key targets identified in preclinical models include E2F5 in glioblastoma, BZW1 in ovarian cancer, and Wip1 (PPM1D) in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), miR-129-3p mimic has been shown to suppress cell proliferation, invasion, and migration while enhancing sensitivity to cisplatin and radiotherapy. It is currently available as a laboratory tool from suppliers such as Thermo Fisher Scientific and MedChemExpress and is not yet an approved therapeutic product.
