Overview

microRNA-1305 mimics are synthetic double-stranded RNA molecules designed to restore the activity of the endogenous tumor-suppressor microRNA-1305 (miR-1305). In pancreatic cancer, miR-1305 is frequently downregulated, which facilitates tumor growth and metastasis. These mimics function by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of target mRNAs, specifically Krueppel-like factor 5 (KLF5) and Receptor tyrosine-protein kinase erbB-2 (ERBB2), leading to their downregulation. This intervention disrupts the KLF5-ERBB2 signaling axis, thereby inhibiting aerobic proliferation, reducing metastatic potential, and inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. Furthermore, miR-1305 and KLF5 participate in a negative regulatory loop where KLF5 suppresses miR-1305 transcription, a cycle that the mimics are intended to break to achieve therapeutic effects.
