microRNA-146a-5p mimic is a synthetic double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to simulate the biological activity of the endogenous tumor-suppressive microRNA, miR-146a-5p. In various malignancies, particularly epithelial ovarian cancer, miR-146a-5p expression is frequently downregulated, which contributes to apoptosis resistance and chemoresistance. The mimic functions by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of target mRNAs, leading to translational inhibition or mRNA degradation. Key therapeutic targets include anti-apoptotic genes such as XIAP, BCL2L2 (Bcl-w), and BIRC5 (Survivin). By suppressing these proteins, the mimic sensitizes cancer cells to DNA-damaging agents like cisplatin, thereby enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapy and promoting programmed cell death.
