Overview

microRNA-148a-3p agomir is a chemically modified, double-stranded small RNA molecule designed to mimic the biological activity of endogenous microRNA-148a-3p. As an 'agomir,' it typically features specific chemical modifications, such as 2'-O-methyl groups and cholesterol conjugation, to enhance its stability against nucleases and facilitate cellular uptake in vivo. This research tool is primarily utilized in preclinical studies to investigate its therapeutic potential in various cancers, including glioma, esophageal carcinoma, and colorectal cancer, as well as inflammatory conditions like necrotizing enterocolitis. Its mechanism of action involves the post-transcriptional downregulation of multiple target genes, including ERRFI1 (MIG6), CEP55, TP53, and SLC7A11. By suppressing these targets, the agomir modulates critical signaling pathways such as EGFR/MAPK and regulates biological processes like cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and ferroptosis. It is currently available as a laboratory reagent from suppliers like GenePharma and AcceGen.
