microRNA-15b-3p mimic is a synthetic RNA oligonucleotide designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous microRNA miR-15b-3p. In the context of prostate cancer research, miR-15b-3p has been identified as an oncomiR that promotes resistance to anti-androgen therapies like bicalutamide. The mimic functions by targeting and downregulating the expression of Kruppel-like factor 2 (KLF2). Suppression of KLF2 leads to the inhibition of ferroptosis—a form of iron-dependent regulated cell death—by modulating the SLC7A11/GPX4 axis and decreasing glutathione (GSH) concentrations. While the mimic is primarily used as a research tool to investigate these pathways and confirm the role of miR-15b-3p in tumor progression and drug resistance, it also serves as a potential lead for developing RNA-based therapeutic strategies in conditions where miR-15b-3p activity is beneficial.
