Overview

microRNA-181a mimics are synthetic, double-stranded RNA oligonucleotides designed to emulate the biological activity of endogenous microRNA-181a (miR-181a). These molecules are used to restore or overexpress miR-181a levels in cellular models, where they function by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of specific target mRNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. miR-181a is a member of the miR-181 family and plays a significant role in regulating hematopoiesis, immune cell development, and oncogenic processes. In multiple myeloma research, miR-181a mimics have been shown to promote cell proliferation, suggesting that miR-181a may act as an oncomiR in this specific malignancy. These mimics are primarily utilized as research-use-only (RUO) reagents to investigate the functional role of miR-181a in various diseases and to explore its potential as a therapeutic target or biomarker.
