microRNA-296-5p mimic is a synthetic RNA molecule designed to replicate the biological activity of the endogenous miR-296-5p. Research indicates that miR-296-5p is a maturation-dependent factor found in plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) that declines with age. The mimic functions by downregulating inflammatory pathways and reducing markers of cellular senescence. In preclinical studies, miR-296-5p mimic has demonstrated the ability to improve survival rates in mouse models of polymicrobial sepsis and promote tissue repair in wound healing models, suggesting therapeutic potential for treating systemic inflammation and age-related physiological decline.
