microRNA-30a-5p mimetics are synthetic RNA molecules designed to restore the function of the endogenous tumor suppressor miR-30a-5p, which is frequently downregulated in various cancers, including upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). These mimetics act by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of target mRNAs, leading to translational repression or mRNA degradation. In UTUC, miR-30a-5p mimetics have been shown to inhibit cell proliferation, migration, and the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by upregulating the tight junction protein claudin-5 and epithelial marker E-cadherin, while simultaneously suppressing mesenchymal markers such as vimentin, fibronectin, and alpha-smooth muscle actin.
