microRNA-548aq-3p mimic is a synthetic double-stranded RNA oligonucleotide designed to simulate the biological activity of the endogenous mature microRNA, miR-548aq-3p. In the context of oncology research, specifically epithelial ovarian cancer, this mimic is used to investigate the mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance. It functions by post-transcriptionally downregulating the expression of the RNA polymerase II mediator complex subunit 12 (MED12). Research indicates that the overexpression of miR-548aq-3p via these mimics enhances cell survival and proliferation while conferring resistance to cisplatin treatment. While the mimic itself is primarily utilized as a research tool to characterize disease progression and drug resistance, the miR-548aq-3p/MED12 signaling axis is considered a significant therapeutic target for the development of miRNA inhibitors (antagomirs) to restore chemotherapy sensitivity.
