Overview

microRNA-592 mimic is a synthetic RNA-based therapeutic designed to replicate the function of the endogenous tumor suppressor microRNA-592 (miR-592). In various malignancies, including epithelial ovarian cancer, miR-592 expression is frequently downregulated, contributing to tumor progression. The mimic functions by binding to the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of specific target messenger RNAs, most notably the ERBB3 (Her3) oncogene. This binding leads to the degradation of the mRNA or the inhibition of its translation, thereby reducing the levels of the ERBB3 protein. By downregulating ERBB3, the microRNA-592 mimic inhibits critical signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Preclinical research has demonstrated that exogenous administration of this mimic can suppress tumor growth in mouse xenograft models, suggesting its potential as a novel therapeutic strategy for cancers where miR-592 is lost.
