Microtransplantation (MST) is an innovative cellular therapy protocol developed by the Affiliated Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Military Medical Sciences (specifically the 307th Hospital) for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), particularly in elderly patients. The procedure involves the infusion of HLA-mismatched donor hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) following standard induction or consolidation chemotherapy, without the use of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis. This approach is designed to induce a potent graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect and accelerate hematopoietic recovery through transient donor chimerism, while avoiding the severe complications associated with traditional allogeneic stem cell transplantation, such as GVHD and the need for intensive myeloablative conditioning. The protocol is currently being evaluated in the Phase III IMCG-EAML trial for untreated elderly patients.
